PHIL122 HM - Ethics: Ancient and Modern

Credit(s): 3

Wright. A comparative study of the theories of several major moral philosophers, beginning with Plato and Aristotle, and ending with Nietzsche’s critique of modern morality. Other figures studied may include Aquinas, Hobbes, Spinoza, Hume, Kant and Mill. The course emphasizes the ways in which philosophical accounts of the nature of “goodness” and “virtue” shape conceptions of the moral person and the moral life.
