Grabiner (Pitzer). A survey of the history of mathematics from antiquity to the present. Topics emphasized will include: the development of the idea of proof, the “analytic method” of algebra, the invention of the calculus, the psychology of mathematical discovery, and the interactions between mathematics and philosophy.
