CLES131 HM - Data Science for Global Change Biology Credit(s): 3
Instructor(s): Guo
Offered: Fall
Description: Anthropogenic change, particularly climate change, is creating an undeniable impact on Earth’s environments and biota. Modern observational and analytic tools are necessary for uncovering the causes, consequences, and feedbacks between climate change drivers and their impacts. This intermediate course will leverage previous knowledge of biology and statistics to develop an R-based data science toolkit of reproducible workflows, data visualization, and version control. Students will explore, understand, and communicate spatio-temporal data in global change topics such as shifting vegetation phenology, drought impacts on primary productivity, global fisheries decline, and invasive species.
Prerequisite(s): BIOL046 HM and CSCI005 HM and (BIOL154 HM or MATH056 HM or MATH062 HM )
