Description: Approaching the medium from an artistic perspective, students will explore a variety of photographic concepts and techniques. This course emphasizes seeing, thinking, and creating with a critical mind and eye to provide understanding of the construction and manipulation of photographic form and meaning. The fundamentals of camera controls are covered. Students will explore everything from early photographic tools and processes to modern cameras and software as equally legitimate tools for creating art. Assignments, lectures, readings, and excursions will build on each other to provide students with an overview of the history and contemporary practice of photography. $150 course fee.
